Admission Requirements


I. UNDERGRADUATE
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Students who are non-native English speakers must have satisfactory English language skills to study at the University. Various English qualifications are accepted:

YEAR ONE ENTRY

IELTS 5.5

(IELTS 5.0 if undertaking Intensive English Pathway in Year One at XJTLU) 

TOEFL 72 (IBT)

YEAR TWO ENTRY

IELTS 6.5

TOEFL 90 (IBT)

English qualifications are not required for student from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan who take the Joint Entrance Examination or the GSAT.
ENTRY INTO YEAR ONE
We welcome applications from high-quality candidates in all subject areas with appropriate high school or equivalent qualifications. Students will normally be expected to have a high standing in their high school performance with a minimum “B” average in relevant subjects.
ENTRY INTO YEAR TWO
Students who have completed A-levels or International Baccalaureate (or equivalent) will be considered for entry into Year Two.
• A-level: BBB
• IB: 30 points
• SAT: high school diploma with a GPA of 3.0, plus three SAT subject tests of at least 600 in each subject
• AP: high school diploma with a GPA of 3.0, plus three AP subjects at Grade 4 or above
HONG KONG, MACAO AND TAIWAN
Applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan may also apply with the following:
1. A minimum grade of 400 on the Joint Entrance Examination to Chinese Universities for Overseas Chinese Students and Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
or
2. General Scholastic Ability Test ranking of at least top 25 percent for Taiwanese students who have completed high school in Taiwan, or at least top 50 percent for Taiwanese students who have completed high school in mainland China.
Taiwan students applying to XJTLU through the GSAT cannot apply to other universities in China at the same time as per Chinese government regulations.
II. POSTGRADUATE
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
If English is not your native language or if you have not studied in English at degree level, you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency. You should normally possess an appropriate IELTS, TOEFL, or an equivalent score (see page 134 for the requirements for each programme).
In exceptional circumstances, individual cases will be considered on their own merits. You may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate your English proficiency.
If you miss the English language requirements by 0.5-1.0 of an IELTS band, or a similar number for other English language exams, you can be admitted to the programme after successful completion of our four- or six-week intensive English presessional course.
You can also apply to take the XJTLU English language test in lieu of an IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent. Based on the score, students may be admitted or may be required to take and successfully complete the four- or six-week intensive English presessional course. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
UK:
Upper second class (2:1) honours
CHINA:
1st tier universities: 75% or above 2nd tier universities: 80% or above Note: Chinese applicants are not required to take the MoE postgraduate entrance exam.
NORTH AMERICA:
3.0 Cumulative GPA (out of 4) or 3.2 Cumulative GPA in the final two years of your undergraduate programme
OTHER REGIONS:
Equivalent academic qualifications

Additionally, students may be required to complete English language courses on a pass/fail basis as part of the additional learning activity requirement during their studies at XJTLU.
